The second installment of Metrist’s Pollen EP series emerges just shy of a year after the first. Again issued through Batu’s Timedance, this is another set of scuffed-up glitch-techno from an artist at once part of the UK’s exciting new techno wave and also unique enough to operate on his own terms. ‘KJ Receder’ and ‘Qqraasi Qraasi’ are both ‘classic’ Metrist, if such a thing exists - their unpredictable yet insistently danceable beats bring to mind what Rian Treanor might come up with if he lowered his tempos. Pollen, Pt. II’s closer ‘VV Squi’ slams its foot on the gas, the jerky, stomping rhythm sounding off like an early Sophie production let loose in the lab.
