The legendary Roman Flügel makes his debut on Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Sound label with a new 12” entitled Hotel Karthago / Energies. While recent dispatches from the Frankfurt-to-Berlin producer have traversed wide swaths of the electronic music spectrum, Flügel zeroes in on the dancefloor here in ways only he can. The A side’s ‘Hotel Karthago’ is an elbows out techno roller in spirit (and tempo) that’s cut up by a house-heavy electric piano line while ‘Energies’ on the flip has the chiming synths and moody strings of a long lost new wave classic.
