Air Max ‘97 debuts on Batu’s Timedance with a cracking two-tracker. The New Zealand-born, London-based artist takes something of a left-turn on Ice Bridge opener ‘Bruxis’, slowing his tempo down to around 100-bpm and constructing proceedings around a Reggaeton beat. This proves to be an inspired choice as the track snakes along on a nasty groove reminiscent of Leonce at their most potent. Ice Bridge’s eponymous cut finds Air Max ‘97 in more familiar territory - after a cautious, curious start the number explodes into the sort of whip-smart two-step/UK bass groove that Spooky would be proud of. Great artwork on this thing, too.
