Returning from the more Earthly contortions of 2019’s Corra Linn, Lanark Artefax propels ever further into unknown realms and esoteric spheres with his latest EP Metallur. Clearly there’s been an evolution in those five years, as Lanark Artefax is at his most visceral in this stygian soundworld, with sonic material sculpted and landscaped into tangible, jutting forms. Synthetic apparitions sound more like alien musical organisms than any human hardware, flipping from infernal rushes to glacial freeze on ‘Surface Light’ in a maelstrom of ephemerally shifting tempos, followed by sharp pointillist synth odysseys rending the air, and scattershot vocals arpeggiated and eviscerated.
