Two years on from his second full-length, Detroit visionary Shigeto returns to Ghostly with the Intermission EP. This diverse collection of songs shows the producer at the intersection between past, present and future: the mesmerising ‘Pulse’ leads the way with the shifting polyrhythms derived from multiple samples; the jazzy synths and weighty drum-machine punches of ‘City Dweller’ similarly embody trademark Shigeto sounds. The stumbling ‘Do My Thing’ sees him play with cleverly accentuated bass, muscularly down pitched vocal fragments and dysfunctional music box notes, while ‘Gently’ and ‘Deep Breathing’ explores newer, beatless territories.
