After completing his revered triptych of /Three albums in 2018, Tadd Mullinix returns to his instrumental stylings as Dabrye with the laser focussed beat tape Super-Cassette. Inspired by stacks of tapes and print media, his latest album is a showcase of his singular take on hip hop: tracks like ‘Swamp Lord’ effortlessly flip samples into genius rhythms filled with characterful sound effects, surrounded either side of the tracklist by soporific chords, funky bass beeps, and sizzling synths swirling in woozy tape decay. It's as much a throwback to boom bap glory days as it is super-modern beat innovation.
