Shigeto drops an EP that builds on the nocturnal house and techno sound of his 2017 LP The New Monday. On Weighted we find the Michigan mainstay exploring the various electronic styles of his beloved state. Opening cut ‘Fight Club’ is a highly groovy techno jam that sets itself apart from the current crop of Drexciya-worshipping producers due to its well-groomed beat tracking. ‘Fight Club’ is followed by ‘Ooh Ooh’, a jam that mixes plunderphonics and electronic noise in a manner not a million miles away from someone like Dabrye. The Ian Fink-featuring jam ‘The Line Up’ is a deep and slinky number in the Moodymann mould, and Weighted rounds out with Andres’ glorious house remix of The New Monday opener ‘Detroit Part II’.
