Gatunki

How contemporary electronic/dance music has penetrated other scenes outside of the Western world, is an investigation that really took flight in 2010. This release is a collection of tracks put together by Honest Jon's that were previously only available as shared digital files, YouTube clips and CDs that were passed around beneath hushed tones of the cabal that made them. The essence of Shangann music is speed, and you will find a reluctance to dance by the indigenous folk if this music was played any slower. Originally born from the sound of Shangaan disco which happened in the 80's, the current sound has evolved into a much more energetic and visceral experience. Yet another essential musical document from Honest Jon's, compiled by label owner, Mark Ainley, and Basic Channel's, Mark Ernestus, that realises some of the world's most exciting, esoteric and underground body music forms.
