Coming back to Honest Jon’s Records for the first time since 2017, Shackleton presents an EP of rippling rhythms. Based heavily on sabar drum performances he recorded in Dakar in 2020, The Majestic Yes draws closer to downtempo and dub whilst keeping organic percussion at the forefront. Signals whistle and twinkle in the background of the title track, adding to the spacey and slightly ominous atmosphere, while the skeletal ‘The Overwhelming Yes’ features drums folding and unfolding like origami in shifting rhythms. Basic Channel / Ndagga Rhythm Force's Mark Ernestus, meanwhile, flips the track with splatters of colour and wooden melodies.
