Madteo lands on Honest John’s with a set of unruly re-routes of Detroit machine funk. Str8 Crooked feeds the classic dancefloor sound through a mid-Atlantic lens of raw hip-hop and house. We begin with the jacking rhythm of the disc’s title track, a Paisley sound banger heard from the bottom of a body of water, as ‘Build Back Better Sweatshops’ stop-starts with a menacing rave fervour. The epic immersion of ‘Episcopi Vagantes’ blooms with melody over its 16-minute length, driven by a menacing forward motion.
