Belgian label Crammed Discs have always strutted down the road less traveled, carefree in the quest for the most exciting musical combinations. Their biggest later period success is, of course, Konono No. 1 and the ground-breaking Congotronics (2004) LP. For this new album, the legendary Congolese band has joined forces with acclaimed Angolan/Portuguese artist Batida aka Pedro Coquenão to create a sound made in Lisbon, born in Kinshasa, by way of Batida’s birthplace Angola. What transpires is an incredible fusion of these styles and flavours; modernising and twisting the now familiar Congotronics palette into something even more vividly danceable.
