Irish producer anodyne broke new ground with his 2020 LP Decay, an album loaded with comprehensive demonstrations of his flexibility in drawing acid, breakbeat and scratch-heavy hip-hop to his dystopic rave palette. The Decayed 12” sees anodyne uplifting two standout cuts from the release, alongside free-rein remixes from certain electronic luminaries. Naturally, these reworks make a fitting case for anodyne’s own limitless versatility.

It’s difficult to believe that Autechre’s remix of ‘We Are All We Have’ stems from anodyne’s tune. The source joint marches with crunchy industrial snares as pitch black pads create wisps of slow-creeping menace in the atmosphere; in classic Autechre fashion, the duo nearly bin the beat entirely and pull the ghostly ambience forward for a dub-inflected piece straight out of the SIGN/PLUS playbook. Acroplane frequenters Somatic Responses linger a little closer to the raw materials with their ‘Fractured’ remix of ‘Lockdown 3.2X’. The classic drum n bass yelps, already warped into a monstrous form by anodyne, are uploaded among sour acid modulations and amped prickly noise jabs, before an onslaught of low end rhythms send the beat flying.
