To create new LP The Senja Recordings, Biosphere fellow Geir Jenssen spent three years collecting sounds on the Norwegian arctic isle of Senja. While out there on the island he also managed to find time to come up with some studio improvisations. The result is a spare, curious album that gives as much time to the field work as it does to Biosphere’s usual dark ambient experiments. Tracks like ‘Bjorvika’ and ‘Steinfjord’, for instance, are little more than wind and rain. The contrast between these elemental numbers and sub-aquatic drones such as ‘Berg’ make The Senja Recordings an extremely atmospheric listen.
