Black Mesa is the first taster of Biosphere's eagerly awaited follow-up to 2016's crowning glory Departed Glories, two tracks of lush ambient techno shot through a sphere of early '90s bleary-eyed post-rave sampladelia.
Black Mesa transfers a selection of star gazing spoken word extracts from Joan Lorring, lifted from an episode of The Twilight Zone and placed deep within the mix to perfectly capture the piece's floating vibe and bring it into orbit.
On the reverse, Turned To Stone uses the same source material yet sets the clipped vox against a hefty hip-hop beat of stabbing horns that could be Bytes era Black Dog reworking some Mo Wax classics.
While both tracks are unmistakably the work of Geir Jennsen, the new directions they point towards is getting us hot under the collar for what lies ahead within The Petrified Forest.
