Wah-Wah Supersonic deliver another classic vinyl reissue from the vaults of seminal German krautrock outfit Popol Vuh by continuing to focus on the group’s soundtrack work with respected filmmaker Werner Herzog. Notorious for members of the cast being hypnotised by Herzog himself, Herz Aus Glass (Heart Of Glass) is a surrealist insight into a small glassworks community and the dazed, ethereal imagery of the film is beautifully enriched by Popol Vuh’s sublime, hypnagogic soundtrack. The musical mood is one of contemplation, still brimming with powerful musical passages (‘Hüter der Schwelle’) but mostly underpinned by moments of transcendent guitar verses and spiritual undertakings infused with Indian instrumentation (‘Das Lied von den hohen Bergen).
