A then anonymous Stephen Hitchell debuted his cv313 alias back in 2007 with ‘subtraktive’, quickly achieving classic status in the realms of dub techno and abyssal ambient electronics. The waves crash in, rebounding and revelling in that lush, immersive space, before the beats arrive and submerge further into the dubscape: first sparse ticks like individual grains of sand, then a humming bassline, and finally the rhythmic pulse of kick. This remaster arrives at the advent of the project’s twentieth anniversary, paired with the more active live at AIR, Tokyo version, with drips and drops ricocheting across the trickling cavernous atmosphere.
