You could think of Melvins’ Gluey Porch Treatments as a busted pipe at a sewage facility; a point of origin for the ensuing torrent of sludge. Once described by Dave Grohl as heavier and better than Black Sabbath, Melvins’ 1987 full-length debut is every bit as dynamic and crushing as that sounds. Opening track ‘Eye Flys’ holds no prisoners, drip-feeding drums and dollops of guitar feedback before exploding into a classic Melvins-style chugger — one of many on this LP, a reminder that the group had their infernal craft down from day one. A trove of demos proves that point too.
