After almost forty years out of print, the highly awaited reissue of Hiroshi Yoshimura’s Surround arrives. Made to be experienced with the happenings of life, the album’s susurrations seek to enhance and merge with the everyday sounds that surround us, a true example of the environmental music genre (or kankyō ongaku) Yoshimura helped create. Plunks of water jump from side to side above the shivering synths of ‘Time After Time’, while tiptoeing Rhodes bob along the gentle tide of melody in ‘Something Blue’.
