As parodied so lovingly by cult Channel 4 show Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, the 1980s is fertile territory for lovers of horror film soundtracks. Richard Band was one of the composers in the mix back then, and his score for the 1986 b-movie H.P. Lovecraft’s From Beyond displays all the classic traits of the form. Strings screech, rattle and slide with a general air of spookiness, augmented by chiming glockenspiel and electric piano.
