Simon Pomery drops more noisy electronics as Blood Music on where else but Powell’s Diagonal imprint. Following his 2013 self-titled EP, Chicks / Badgering is the London producer’s third EP for the label. The two title songs are high-impact club tracks: Russell Haswell helped create the analogue drum machine parts of ‘Chicks’, which emulate the practice of Taiko drumming, the live parts being recorded in a warehouse in Wembley. The feedback melodies stem from Pomery playing his guitar with a contact mic in the left hand, and sheet metal in the right. Luke Younger causes the source material to swell to a spiky, distorted avalanche of sound in his Helm remix, against which the convolving harmonies of ‘Sharking’ seem like a meditation.
