The next release on Powell's (producer of brilliant, dusty body music) Diagonal label comes from the mysterious Blood Music. They're a band who make brutal and dark post-punk in the vein of Suicide, the bleaker end of Sonic Youth and contemporary makers of abrasive sound, Factory Floor.
The 'Blood Music EP' is driven by drum machines, crashing percussion, predatory, distorted electronics and squalls of roughly-treated guitars. With the stalking, head-nodding menace of "Rare Earth Material" and "Speak Like Violence" they build dangerous and sinister, creeping songs carried away on singer and creative lead of the band Simon Pomery's incantatory vocals. These are broken up by the ambient murmurs and dark tremors of "Infinite Process 1" and "Infinite Process 2". All in all it's mesmerising work rich in dark and heavy mood.
