After the notable success of 2018’s Sacred Horror in Design, the closest Iranian musician Ata Ebtekar — aka Sote — has come to manifesting his modern-traditional, electronic-acoustic amalgam project, Parallel Persia seems like the crucial second act. Hammered dulcimers and four string sitars warp in and out of tangible forms, bolstered by drones or heavy synths. While Sote is still definitively meditative, Parallel Persia signals a more immediate approach, an open-armed embrace to anyone who’ll reciprocate.
