Vivan Slaughter’s Vivankrist serves up a set of grizzled industrial electronics on new LP Cross Modulation. Many of the tracks here feature pulsing synths bent out of shape by washes of noise or digital distortion. The way that melodies fight for air amid the ruckus on cuts like ‘Behind Mirror’ and ‘Tear’ is reminiscent of Chris Carter. There are also moments here where Viviankrist completely throws off the shackles - try the brutalised anarcho-dub of ‘Blue Iron’.
