Handy comes back to Diagonal (EVOL, Shit & Shine) with an EP of maximalist dance tracks. One could be forgiven, on first listen to Mature Single Despots, for mistaking the record for an early Sophie release. All of the cuts here use the same tools that made the likes of ‘Lemonade’ and ‘Bipp’ so arresting. That means overly bright synths, squelching bass and occasional system overloads are the order of the day. However, Handy differentiates these numbers from Sophie’s by aiming them more squarely at the dancefloor. For all of their quirks, the likes of ‘Crossword Bitch’ and the title track are still groovy enough to get the party moving.
