True Panther Sounds bring through the sophomore effort from trailblazing LA producer Shlohmo. The heavier, more adventurous sides of his sound come to the fore on the downbeaten noisiness of Buried and the hyperactive breakbeat dystopia on closer Beams. Meanwhile, he’s maintaining his ability to get bodies moving with uptempo beat workouts like Meet Ur Maker and Ditch. The cuts of Dark Red might not be quite as floor-focused as some of Shlohmo’s previous output but it shows a truly exciting progression in the producer’s sound. An exploration of electronica’s gloomier terrains.
