After 20 years of crafting beats with Sandwell District, Dave Sumner finally gets around to a solo album of his own. ‘Incubation’ was conceived as a cinematic techno LP and that’s precisely what Sumner’s delivered: ticking, ethereal keyboards on ‘Counterpoint’; relentless clicks on ‘Gradient I’ that feel like bomb diffuser music. If Darren Aronofsky ever shoots a sequel to Pi he needs to look no further for the tunes.
