Since its original release in 2008 via Actress's Werk Discs label, Where Were U In '92? threw a spanner into the works of people expecting Zomby to roll out a debut album of grime and dubstep flavoured club sounds. Instead he harked back to the golden age of British dance music with a rinsin' '92 hardcore session that sounds like it could have been lifted from the very best AWOL Randall sets.

Sequenced into essentially a nonstop mix set in a LDN post-acid/raging hardcore/beginning of jungle dancefloor. Lifting cheeky samples from hands in the air classics such as Playing With Knives, on the euphoric Float, the eyes in the back of the head, end of night, trance out of U Are My Fantasy (Street Fighter II Theme Remix) which pays homage to the primitive machines the original movement was produced on, Akai samplers and floppy discs, stolen samples and video game synth tones. Giving nod to the wave of techstep and sci-fi indebted junglist tunes that looked to cyberpunk and sci-fi horror for samples i.e. Shimon (she said the jungle, it just came alive and took him!) Dom & Roland (C'mon, Deckard) and Dillinja's Angels Fell, the LP's greatest moment took the Tears In Rain speech from Blade Runner and morphs it into a growling ragga style banger with a 2008 UKG drum shuffle thats shows just how skilled Zomby is at executing the OG sounds of the hardcore continuum with the climate of post-dubstep he was lumbered into by many critics (despite being a grime producer at core).

Where Were U In '92? is a life-affirming record no matter what you are into.
