LA label Brainfeeder brings an ahead-of-its-time classic back to vinyl for the first time since its 2013 release with this reissue of Lapalux’s debut LP Nostalchic. An intoxicating blend of aching soul and R&B, vibes-forward, woozy house, and daring experimentalism, Nostalchic was (slightly) out of step with the prevailing trends of the era, but has grown to be a formative DNA strand in the time since. Tracks like ‘One Thing’ and ‘Straight Over My Head’ are nearly bursting at the seams with musical filigree and expert sound design, a sure fire reason why Lapalux caught Flying Lotus’ ear from the jump.
