Breaking away from the Livity Sound collective, Craig Stennett launches new label Impasse with an intriguing blend of dub techno and ambient drone under his Asusu moniker. Opener ‘Serra’ is a throbbing cut of Berlin techno, whose dark, visceral precision is reminiscent of recent releases from Akkord or Dadub. From there the EP takes an abrupt change of pace, with ‘Anglo Skin’, ‘Arrhythmia’ and ‘Low Art’ all exploring a range of expertly realised ambient soundscapes, creating a blissful extended comedown after ‘Serra’s pummelling lead-in.
