Less than a year after his debut, Peckham’s Reginald Omas Mamode IV resurfaces with a soulful EP on Five Easy Pieces. With his organic sound aesthetic, Mamode juxtaposes 4/4 techno beats, as in ‘Fire Burning’, with jamming jazz-organs, as in ‘Know You Better’, and makes it seem like the most natural idea in the world. Double bass lines melt into foreground percussion in the ‘Intro’. ‘The Hustler’ sees clapping hi-hats groove around his low-key vocals which always feel instinctive and fit perfectly into the well-produced mix.
