Glasgow post-punk duo Women’s Hour land on the L.I.E.S. label for their debut self-titled LP. Women’s Hour play things close to the 80’s playbook here, favouring high-up-the-neck basslines,n boomy, single-minded drum machine patters, and a grayscale mood and atmosphere to go along with the barren industrial motif. However, that’s not to say that these tunes lack personality, as the pointed barbs of ‘Agitated Slumlord’ and ‘Narcissist’ viciously bare their fangs at some very clear targets. This being a L.I.E.S. release, there’s also a thick, tactile grit and a pervasive sense of doom throughout these recordings that adds another enticing entry into the world Women’s Hour is building here.
