'The Ganzfeld EP' features two new Matmos tracks that are explicitly based upon material from psychic session, 'the Ganzfeld experiment'; including an exploratory, warehouse-style techno remix of 'You' by RRose, of the hugely respected, esoteric techno imprint Sandwell District; and his own, fledgeling Eaux label. The edit of 'Very Large Green Triangles' is of gothic-urban mood, flexing a robust, 'ballroom' rhythm below curious, idiosyncratic nuances. Completely opposed by the EPs exclusive, 'Just Waves' which has the duo experimenting with vocals from Dan Deacon, Angel Deradoorian (Dirty Projectors) and Clodagh Simonds (Fovea Hex), warmed by agitating, synthesized pulses. Three wholly different sonic experiments that offer a beguiling experience, careening from widescreen electronic pop to eerie choral music, the results are eclectic, fun and disorienting in equal measure.
