Thrill Jockey revives the active miniature soundscapes of Microstoria with a remastered collection of their first two albums init ding and _snd. Chirping with wonder and abstraction throughout the 90s and early 00s, Jan St. Werner (Mouse On Mars) and Markus Popp (Oval) merged organic instruments with mechanisation, baking their improvised experiments in digital warmth. The glitchy bliss of colliding fragments of sound permeates init ding, bubbling with bitcrushed ambience, while _snd turns steelier with its “slow motion” submersion into patient yet intricate arrangements.
