Faultless Munich label Ilian Tape’s latest foray into more outre and cerebral sounds away from the dancefloor comes courtesy of Italian composer Katatonic Silentio. Her latest LP Les Chemins De L'inconnu is a vast journey of expressive sound that ventures through ambient, dub techno, noise, and modern classical with hypnotic skill. Tracks like ‘Deplacement De La Surface’ bounce what sounds like metal and hand drums around the studio, achieving an enticing bit of friction, while the more structured (but no less probing) ‘Hypothese D’Hypnose’ approaches something closer to the dancefloor via a flickering hi-hat without losing the intoxicating sound design.
