One half of the Zenker Brothers returns to his own Ilian Tape for a new LP of broken beat and wigged out electro entitled Reflection. Dario plays with (and pulls apart) some of the hallmarks of classic machine funk here, stretching and reshaping airy synths and sturdy drum machine bleats until they sound rubber-y and positively liquid. In fact, Zenker seems to create something like his own sense of time on Reflection, as kicks and snares thrillingly fall in and out of phase at will. With titles like ‘The Tease’ and ‘Quantized Rise’ it's clear there’s a sense of humour at play here, as well.
