Swiss techno mainstay Deetron has found new life under his old Soulmate alias, and he returns to Ilian Tape for a new EP entitled Path. While not straying too far from the patented blend of Detroit machine funk and warmer toned European club pursued under his main gig, Soulmate nonetheless sounds rejuvenated here, with tracks ‘Zoom’ and ‘Screen’ bursting with infectious energy and palpable joy. The low-to-mid-fi production on Path belies an unmistakable sense of urgency while also showing off a new, tastefully rougher side to the Zenker Brothers’ much loved imprint.
