The dissolution of pioneering UK dubstep duo Vex’d preceded a total upheaval in Jamie Teasdale’s life and sound, and the resulting Severant was unlike anything he had done before. To “sever” means to cut, evident in the album’s thrillride of slicing beats, the torrential drum fills of ‘Truth Flood’, the visceral splintering between lightning roars and thunderous bass on ‘Work, Live & Sleep In Collapsing Space’. “Severant” also comes from the Latin “sero” meaning to plant or produce, and with a violently ecstatic birth, Kuedo planted the seeds for a hyper-music concept that would keep Severant sounding as dizzyingly fresh today as it did in 2011.
