'Oval DNA' maps together the vastly disparate routes that Oval, AKA Markus Popp, has taken throughout his lengthy career as a musician in the highest regard, as well as an ideologue of the value of music itself and a media-based artist interested in musical sensibility as much as in the theoretic ideas of production and concept. Condensed into this album format comes a collection of rare Oval material, along with twelve previously unreleased works and a bonus disc filled with around two-thousand unrestricted AIFF sound files, intended for the use of music producers at their own liberty, and what Popp calls himself: an 'open source manifesto'. Musically, the unhinged wealth of material sits conspicuously in-between the formality and order, and the organic melodic sensibility of the two conflicting parts of Popp's musical mind-map.
