Japanese producer/composer Yasuaki Shimizu dips into the vault to finally release his 1984 LP Shiren with the Palto Flats label. A beloved figure at home both solo and alongside his bandmates in the new wave combo Mariah, the more experiential-learning Siren came on the heels of smash successes under both formations. Somewhat of a missing link between the pop music for which he made a name and the more techno and jazz oriented work to come, the album may have been seen as too much of an artistic leap at the time. However, tracks like ‘Kagerofu’ and ‘Shiasate’ sound like lost classics to modern ears.
