Ron Morelli’s ‘Laugh Taker’ first appeared on his 2018 LP Disappearer as an unsettling blend of hiccuping vocals and industrial techno drums. This new remix EP finds ‘Laugh Taker’ taken even further by Mick Harris, Overlook and Parrish Smith. All three of these versions push an original already at the very edge of reason out into the ether. Harris’ version is the sort of slamming Birmingham school take that we welcome from the Scorn/Fret head-honcho, Smith’s flip builds to a warehouse-techno frenzy, and Overlook acid-washes the whole thing with the ominous ambiences of Vatican Shadow.
