Top drawer whacked out French animation soundtrack gear from GRM mainstay Robert Cohen-Solal. Though perhaps not name checked as often as some of his peers, Cohen-Solal was a leading force in the musique concrete movement and his score for the cult Les Shadoks is as fine as an introduction to his work as any. Catchy electro pop jingles, drone soundscapes, tape manipulation and Dadaist experiments all come together here and the result is infectious. Check the lead track ‘Au fond du Cosmos’ for some real deal outer-space fantasy ambience. ‘Guerre Musicale’ goes into full insanity with psych rock guitar and wall of noise percussion work.
