Gesamtkunstwerk - a total work of art - has been an operating discourse within the Kraftwerk mythology from the get-go. Nowhere is this more apparent than in their spectacular, groundbreaking concerts, shows that continue to sell out almost fifty years since the world first heard those stirring put-puts at the beginning of Autobahn. Now we get a documentary and album focussed solely on those concerts, specifically the ‘3-D’ tour that the group went on between 2012 and 2016. The release also comes in a variety of shapes and sizes - pick and choose from the standard vinyl, a CD box-set, a blu-ray edition, a box-set that comes with a 236-page book, and a vinyl trove containing new versions of each of the band’s LPs. Phew.
