Perhaps Desmond Dekker's best known album, The Israelites receives a welcome reissue from Sanctuary forty-seven years after its original release. The album opens with the classic hit of the same name, which in 1969 became the UK's first ska number one and propelled Dekker into one of the biggest Jamaican ska and reggae artists of all time.
Issued in 1969 by Doctor Bird Records early on the company’s Pyramid subsidiary, ‘The Israelites’ came hot on the heels of Desmond Dekker’s international smash hit of the same name. Despite the popularity of the album it has remained unavailable since its original release almost half a century ago.
Now at long last, reggae fans can once again own a brand new copy of this hugely popular and significant album. This faithful reproduction of the original UK issue has been mastered from the best available analogue source and is pressed on the highest quality vinyl.
