Respected German imprint Workshop pulls out their third full-length in the form of surprise LP Hidden By The Leaves from underrated Brighton-based producer Ibrahim Alfa. Having seen release plans scheduled in the 90’s on Move D’s Source Records scuppered due to bankruptcy, Alfa finds the spotlight he deserves after Move D coming across the masters in his studio and offering to Lowtec for release here. It’s a release that’s very much at home on Workshop – dance floor orientated but on its own terms, opening with a British sound collage cut-up on ‘Find Your Way Home’ before settling into the deep bounce of ‘Black Mask’ with its fizzing details. Yet it's the breadth of styles that the UK producer is able to traverse that has ensured the material has stood the test of time, such as the warm, melodic 2-step flex of ‘Drifting’, jumped-up, gritted techno of ‘Clip My Wings’ or lush, melodic runaway electro on standout cut ‘Dreamland’.
