It’s been a minute since we’ve seen Gunnar Wendel grace the dance airwaves under his Kassem Mosse name. His last solo full length was Chilazon Gaiden in 2017, followed by scintillating ambient geology as Seltene Erden and leftfield grooves in the groups Kolorit and Zigtrax. Now back in the solo saddle, the Workshop regular presents his latest for the label with an hour of extended trance-inducing house and techno workouts.

Workshop 32 turns down a more glacial route than the frenetic and kinetic explorations on Chilazon Gaiden. But as hazy and wavy as deep house goes, these tracks contain some robustly punching rhythms breaking through the fog. Brawling beats flow in between the synth breezes and starry gusts; 'A1' is an introspective opening with punctuated synth melodies wandering through choppy organic drums, and a subtle yet deeply vibrating subbass adding to the time-molten techno vibe.

One of the more fiery cuts on 'B2' adds tension to the mix as an alarm sounds throughout while heavy thuds hyperventilate with every beat. Clusters of percussion in dense abstracted loops continue this feeling in 'C1', shimmering at the edges with candid dialogue and a nocturnal atmosphere. A romantic classical sample swells over deep subs in 'D2', before 'Provide Those Ends' bursts in emphatically with seafoam synth washes and swishing swung drums, pitting spoken word fraught with angst about exhaustion and family dynamics over the swaying rhythms.

With his fourth album, Kassem Mosse capitalises on the delightful leftfield house flourishes of his invigorating sound.
