Seattle-based producer Jeff McIlwain returns to a more focused ambient sound on his latest EP, Arterial, following his experiments with vocal-led tracks on his 2013 album The Waiting Room. Here the vocals are submerged deep in McIlwain’s compositions but even so the EP remains saturated with human warmth. Arterial’s carefully constructed arrangements contain layers of microscopic detail all while retaining a pop aesthetic. The title track is a case in point, carried by its bubbling synth melody.
