Jamie XX releases ‘Sleep Sound’ in advance of a new double A-side single for the Young Turks label he has long been affiliated with, and proves once again that he is a producer of rare originality and flair. The single oozes the nocturnal elegance which have so characterised the producer’s work as part of the XX, with a laid-back house shuffle providing a ground for warm harp flourishes and disembodied male soul vocals to spring from. That there is little more the artist requires to make a convincing impression is a mark of Jamie XX’s continuing maturity and refinement, which remains a joy to listen to.
