The brilliant Planet Mu label once again proves its knack for presenting the best of hybrid dance music from all corners of the globe with a great single from Cape Town band John Wizards. Judging by ‘Lusaka By Night’, this is singular electronic music at its most giddy and euphoric, with soaring vocoded vocals from Emmanuel Nzaramba and astonishing production from leader John Withers. Rhythmically, the cut operates much in the way that music on the label’s legendary footwork compilations do, pushing and pulling between slow and double tempo grooves which have all the freneticism of Shangaan Electro numbers. With naïve toy synth slides, spacious guitar licks and bassy stabs, it delivers on more elements than one could hope for, whilst remaining uncluttered and serene.
