A “punk ethnomusicologist” sound collector turned field recording raver, Julien Hairon AKA Judgitzu pairs Celtic heritage with Tanzanian dance music and fried electronics on his debut album Sator Arepo. Likening the magic square that appears across the world to his crosscultural musical practice, Hairon lifts ritualistic instruments into a furious maelstrom of stabbing kicks, lasering noise, and surges of raw club energy. Bordering on footwork, EBM, and power electronics, these tracks situate spirituality in the heart of the dancefloor, overloading the decks with steely synth buzzes and a relentless pulse.
