It seems like just yesterday that London institution Hyperdub and Chicagoan footwork maestro DJ Rashad formed a formidable partnership through releases such as ‘Rollin’ and ‘I Don’t Give A Fuck’, but it was the 2013 release of Rashad’s Double Cup LP that blew the doors open. The album acted as a melting pot for bass, hip-hop, techno, acid and jungle, all clinging to a jacking footwork base. Far from a solo venture, Rashad collaborated hard across the piece, with the title track dragging in DJ Spinn for a wild concoction of driving beats and ghetto funk. UK producer Addison Groove combines on the devastating 'Acid Bit', providing a peak-time moment on what continues to be some of the most forward thinking and exciting electronic music around all these years later.

Partisan Records are now reissuing the indelible moment in a movement on gold vinyl for its 10th Anniversary, and as we look back on a decade since the release of Double Cup, what’s most striking is how Rashad concocted such a prescient blend of regional dance phenomena, classicist rave nostalgia, and mainstream pop awareness into a movement all its own. While the world lost him just before TEKLIFE and the greater footwork/juke diaspora really took off, Double Cup set the wheels in motion that got this midwestern strain of dance from the roller rinks and community centres of Chicago and into festivals and conservatories across the world.
